Food Diary (July 22, 2011)

Breakfast: Rolled oats with nectarines and sunflower seeds

Lunch: Macaroni with Spanish eggplant

Dinner: Bean sprouts curry with oat sourdough, cabbage, apple and cucumber salad

Baking/sweets: Chocolate, chocolate semolina cake with chocolate sauce, other cakes

Today I tried the easy 4 ingredient semolina cake with different flavours such as chocolate and coconut. They all worked, even if they didn’t I would happily eat them. Chocolate semolina cake without any fat is a bit crumbly, somewhere between a crumbly cookie and a cake. It is different but nice, and goes really well with a sauce. Yesterday I talked about naked cupcakes, today I dressed up the cakes. The cake had less sugar so eating them naked would have been less interesting.

This is interesting, beer will be officially classified as alcohol in Russia. Preciously drinks containing less than 10% alcohol were considered a foodstuff. 

The legal classification will take effect from 2013, however the issue is if and when Russians will actually consider beer and other ‘lighter’ beverages to be alcohol. If you have been to Russia and drank with Russians you will know that beer is not really considered alcohol, it does not do the ‘job’.  There is a Russian saying ‘drinking beer without vodka is a waste of money’. The legal classification of beer will change but I really wonder if there will be a change from the practical perspective.
