Crispy spiced beans, muffins with flaming strawberries and ginger candy

Oven Baked Crispy Spiced Beans
Today's Food Diary
Breakfast: Boiled egg with chili flaxseed sourdough toast
Lunch: Lentils and pickled cucumber spread with chili flaxseed sourdough toast
Dinner: Pork curry with rice
Baking/sweets: Oven Baked Crispy Spiced Beans, chocolates

Today was a 'fantastic catch-up' day. My saturated fat consumption during the past week, or weeks, has been minimal. Today's pork curry ‘blew the budget’ though I was probably still below the recommended daily maximum consumption guideline. The curry was hot, spicy, fatty and delicious. Unfortunately the few photos I took did not do justice to the meal. Fat cooked slow and long almost has a velvety soft texture, almost like the most luxurious chocolate, almost like the most delicate chocolate mousse. Maybe not but its delicious!

I am pretty sure I ‘blew the budget’ with my sugar consumption, and it was not my fault. The supermarket was selling easter eggs at a ridiculously low price (SEK 20, €2,2, US$3,3 for a kg). I think that is the cheapest chocolate I have ever come across. And of course it would be almost criminal to just walk away from such deals. 

When I lived in NZ long time ago there was a chocolate factory little under an hours drive from my home. Broken chocolates (factory seconds) were sold at a really low price in the factory shop, and from memory even those were more expensive than the super cheap easter eggs. 

I think there is a rule – if something is cheaper you can consume relatively more without feeling guilty. So if something is half priced you can consume double the amount. Unfortunately I don’t have a reliable independent source for this rule! Anyway I don’t think I need to justify my purchase and consumption any more, but one final word of wisdom. When something is cheap the more you buy the more you save!

An excellent post featuring ginger recipes – ginger syrup, ginger soda, ginger candy and ginger tea. What I found particularly interesting was the lack of wastage. The ginger that remained after the syrup was produced was used to make ginger candy. Ginger syrup is used to make ginger soda and I presume it has multiple other uses, limited to ones imagination.

  7. Thanks for the beans snacks recipe. (I don't know why but I have never seen anything similar in Asian shops). I love beans. I love beans. I can't see why I wouldn't like these! They will be perfect with some cold Hoeagaarden beer... I must definitely try your recipe.
