Trade sex for food

Food Diary (September 02, 2011)
Breakfast: Rolled oats with plums, sunflower seeds and flax seeds
Lunch: Pickled herring with whole meal sourdough
Dinner: Salmon sashimi, salmon spread on crisp bread, chickpeas and potatoes with sourdough and other bits and pieces

Today I ate all sorts of little bits and pieces, mainly savoury but bit of sweet as well. And at the supermarket they were handing out samples of small bags of Lays chips. I didn’t take one even though I was offered, I took two:)

What is your favourite type of chips? I definitely have a favourite and it has just the right amount of salt, perfect thickness, crispy, not greasy and great flavour. My favourite chips are free chips, they taste great everytime without fail.

The way to a man's (and womans?) heart is through his stomach. United Nations peacekeepers took this a few steps further, and in the wrong direction. The peacekeepers enticed underage girls to trade sex for food, according to a U.S. Embassy cable released by WikiLeaks.

In 2009 Save The Children UK did a random poll of 10 underage girls and found that eight performed sexual acts on a regular basis in exchange for their most basic needs.
Parents were encouraging their daughters to sleep with the peacekeepers so they would provide for them, according to the cable.

It is understandable that the girls did this for food, and even their parents encouraged it. Everyone needs food.  What is sad is that the food is paid for through aid and it should have gone straight to the stomachs, no strings attached. Those peacekeepers who are supposed to be helping were taking advantage of their position.

This article got me thinking what food bloggers could do. I could not think of anything but bloggers collectively can play a role towards alleviating hunger. Food bloggers deal with food, surely they can make a difference.
