This is ambitious and interesting. India and Pakistan are not the best of friends. The neighbors are now competing in a reality TV show called Foodistan that pit chefs and musicians against each other. Producers hope the contests will help bring the two countries closer together. Very ambitious indeed.

The show has only just started and problems have started already. The top Pakistani chef quit the contest, accusing the judges of bias toward India. He is threatening to sue.

The show will certainly bring many challenges. Even though they are neighbors, Indians don't know what Pakistani food is like and vice versa. There is significant overlap in the cuisines of both countries, as well as big differences. Pakistani dishes often include beef, which is not eaten by many people in India for religious reasons. India has more vegetarian dishes, and the food is often cooked with ingredients like coconut milk that are rarely found in Pakistan.

If this works, maybe the Koreans can give it a try too.

    1. Very interesting perspective, I never thought of it that way. Having battles to solve battles:) Already its created problems with a top chef quitting. Looks like the shows promoters etc will be winning through more publicity

  7. See here, people order naked burgers because they think they're healthier without the bread. I have news for them...if they're eating McDonald's, they're probably a lost cause.

    1. It becomes marginally healthy, thats until they order diet coke to go with it:) Might as well enjoy the full meal, with buns

  8. Your hamburger looks delicious. I think I will make some hamburgers soon too. The Naked Hamburger doesn't surprise me at all, but I would choose the bun (even though I love rice).
It sounds like the tv program will get the two countries into a conflict! Now that I think about it, I know nothing about the Pakistanese cuisine. I have always assumed it was almost like the Indian one.

    1. Thank you.
Eating hamburger without buns sounds strange, psychologically. Call the meat patty something else and its nice with potatoes, rice etc. Its all psychological:) There are different names for beef mince patties - beef steak, wallenbergare etc
      Pulau is Pakistani (I think).

  11. Well, we have a dish call Hambaagu/hambagu, which is like meat patties with some delicious sauce over (I will post it one day). I checked the video and I don't know why this guy is ordering patties only from all these fast food chain when we can get delicious hambaagu elsewhere if he wants to eat with rice. Anyway, maybe this was just for fun to see how fast food prepares it without bun. Oh that reminds me, we have a burger joint called Mos Burger and they are famous for using rice bun for some menu (not all). I think you might think this is more interesting! ;-)

  12. A friend of mine sometimes orders a naked big mac too, but she is gluten free so that's kind of understandable - maybe they are too? :-)
