Cupcake ATM and Spinach Polenta Chili Crackers

Spinach Polenta Chili Crackers

Food Diary (March 04, 2012)
Breakfast: Missed
Lunch: Lentils and tomato with rice
Dinner: Semolina porridge with banana and almonds

These spinach polenta chili crackers are healthy, low fat and very simple to make. The spinach flavor is mild. If you don’t like spinach but want to eat it, this could be a way. The crackers are great on its own, with dip or as a replacement for nachos. And they are pretty addictive, even though they are healthy! The recipe is available here.

An interesting development to ensure that people get their cupcake fix 24 hours a day. Sprinkles, an LA bakery, is launching an ATM that will dispense cupcakes, branded clothing, cake mix and even treats for dogs. These machines are expected to go into action in the next 2 weeks.

ATM will be continuously restocked throughout the day and night with a choice of eight cupcake flavours, priced at $4 each. The machine can hold up to 600 cupcakes, and any cake dispensed will have only been baked a couple of hours earlier.

Sort of a similar system is already used in Holland. Its not an ATM but small cubicles, each containing a food item. You can open the door to the cubicle by inserting a coin. But a cupcake ATM seems more technologically advanced.

  2. Crackers revamped! I like! I'll be having a revamp post soon too!
A cupcake ATM? You mean like the vending machines that spit out sandwiches, donuts, etc? Wonder what kind of preservatives or how much of it to keep them fresh (there's probably going to be a lot of wastage for unsold ones after a certain period) and it'll also need refrigeration to keep the frostings nice ... gosh, I wonder how much it's gonna cost for one cupcake? It's already overpriced if you ask me. I know I'm being rather negative about this. It's probably great news to the cupcake crazies out there :)

    1. Yes its the opposite of the real ATM, this one only takes money, does not give out money:)
The ATM would be restocked frequently so the cupcakes will be as fresh as those sold in the bakeries.I think the bakery has many fans so customers will be willing to pay extra. I wouldn't though.

  3. The crackers look extraordinary! It's amazing how many things you can do with polenta crackers! (And with polenta!)
The ATM makes me think of the pizza distributor I saw on tv. Apparently it's in Germany and pizzas come out hot.
Frankly, I think the nearby distributor of raw milk (in a French village) is worth all these put together.

    1. Thank you.
I haven't heard of the pizza distributor. I know in France they have a baguette machine.
      Raw milk in ATM???:)

    2. Yes, I think it was created by the village authorities to promote raw milk which is healthier but which is no longer sold in most supermarkets because of its short life. It's refrigerated of course, the distributor is quite big (like a newspaper stall rather than ATM) and you can also buy there a plastic or glass bottle or bring your own.
You put coins, put the bottle under the "tap" and cold, raw milk is poured by liter. It's fantastic! Curd cheese made with it is simply irresistible, not to mention sour milk...

    3. I didn't realise thats how raw milk was sold. Thats how it used to be done before - in glass bottles.

    4. I have only seen these distributors in France. I have no idea if it exists anywhere else. (Of course it is sold in France on markets and maybe in some shops but usually supermarkets don't carry raw milk).

    5. Such systems might still be in place in some countries, though probably not in Europe.

  10. Love the sound of those crackers!! Would go perfectly with my daily dose of houmous. I've heard about these cupcake machines before. I wondered how they would work - cupcakes can't be made fresh to order else you'd be waiting a long time, but surely there would be a chance of a huge waste if they baked and stored so many inside the machine?
