Transfat and aggression

Pasta salad
Food Diary (March 14, 2012)
Breakfast: Rolled oats with kiwifruit, sunflower seeds and flax seeds
Lunch: Pasta salad
Dinner: Sautéed potatoes and mushrooms
Baking/sweets: chocolates

I struggled to get this post done. My brain has gone into hibernation, and without my prior approval. I guess the brain has highest authority, but still, it should work in a democratic fashion.

A new study published in the journal PLoS ONE finds a link between eating trans fats and being irritable and aggressive.

For the study, the dietary information of 945 men and women was examined, and behavioral assessments conducted. The behavioral survey included their life histories of aggression, how they handled conflict, their self-rated impatience and irritability levels, and their score on an "overt aggression" scale.

Trans fat is generally contained in some comfort such as fried foods. Such foods are meant to make us more comfortable, not aggressive. Maybe this is another reason for banning French fries, it may reduce the number of bullying incidents.

  1. Weird! I don't eat trans fats but sadly I can still be irritable and aggresive -

  2. I wonder what the whipped cream looking stuff is on the cuppa cheese. Hopefully not sweetened whipped cream.

  3. The veggie burger I ate last night came with french fries and it's probably best for my date that I only ate three and not the whole bunch!

  4. Maybe you've had too much or not enough trans fat. Blogger brain fade ... I've been there, many times.

  5. I think I don't eat trans fats... maybe occasionally when I cannot resist a supermarket snack such as nachos... But I never eat margarine, only butter and vegetable oils (and now thanks to you I know several percent of those can be engine oils... I have also seen an interesting tv program recently: they were talking about the fact that UE allows up to 10% engine oils in eating oils and also that Italians produce 2 x more olive oil bottles labelled "made in Italy" than they produce in reality....)

    1. Most of the good margarines have no or negligible trans fat. I saw a cheap brand which contained less than 0,5%. And there's probably not much in nachos etc, I am not sure but I think there isn't. And besides I don't think you eat a packet everyday:)
Engine oil? You mean lamp oil? I hope so:)
There must be countries that produce more oil which does not state that its produced in that country. I guess Italian branded oil is more prestigious, at the moment anyway

    2. You are right, I don't eat a packet of nachos every day ;-)
The French sources talk of engine oil... (I have just checked once more).
No, actually the thing was they don't produce this oil. They import it from North Africa and sell it much more expensive as Italian oil. I'm not even talking about the quality. It also happens in France.

    3. Good to hear you don't eat a pack of nachos everyday!
Engine oil sounds strange. The oil put in car engines is not edible, I think, I have never tried. Maybe they are referring to oil used to lubricate engines in general, which might be different perhaps. Margarine sounds a lot better:)
Regarding oil, sorry for confusion, thats what I meant also. Italians import it from N. Africa, Turkey etc so these countries produce more but the total amount saying 'produced in N. Africa is less'. I bought honey and its written thats its a blend of EU and non-EU honey. At least the honey manufacturer is honest, unlike some olive oil companies
