Pesto and Almost Vegetarian Burger

Pesto

One of my few memories of eating pesto is in a sandwich that I used to buy. Pesto, together with prosciutto, mozzarella cheese and sunflower seed bread was absolutely divine. I didn’t have prosciutto at home so it’s a plain mozzarella pesto sandwich in the photo above. Delicious but it needed the prosciutto. And sandwich with oil running down the sides is not ideal for eating.

And here’s pesto with pasta, a really quick and easy meal. Bit of interesting and totally useless information: if you replace ‘e’ and ‘o’ in pesto, you get pasta. And Wikipedia tells me pesto is Italian so it seems Italians were not so creative with using alphabets to create names. What they lacked in creativity they made up for it with good food. The recipe for pesto is available here.

Eight fast food hamburger brands were studied. Meat content in the hamburgers ranged from 2.1% to 14.8%, with a median of 12.1%. Approximately half of their weight was made up of water. Unexpected tissue types found in some hamburgers included bone, cartilage, and plant material. Sarcocystis parasites were discovered in 2 hamburgers.

The study did not reveal where the 8 hamburgers came from. I suspect it’s the less common fast food hamburgers.

We can look at this as good news. There is lot of effort to reduce meat consumption, like meatless Mondays. The 2% meat burger is almost a vegetarian burger!

We need to drink water. Perhaps American’s drink too much soda and not much water. I wonder how nutritionists feel about people eating these 2% almost vegetarian burgers with 50% water content. Less meat, more water.

  1. Pesto is so wonderful and fun to play with in various dishes. Funny I posted something close to this today lol. Yeah I am sure that 2% burger was not meant a vegetarian, just fake filler. Scary.

    1. I've noticed it becoming popular recently - first it was chilli in desserts, now peppercorns

  3. Your pesto makes me hungry, especially the first zoom on the green oil dripping from the top... Pesto is not a complicated word nor a complicated recipe but it's so delicious, isn't it?
No horse meat this time? ;-)

    1. That oil is delicious!!! I would like to try cilantro pesto - that would be quite nice.
