Asian Baked Beans, Blueberry Tart and Eat Like a Viking to Live Longer

Grilled herring with potatoes and veges
Today's Food Diary
Breakfast: Boiled egg with flaxseed sourdough toast
Lunch: Grilled herring with potatoes and veges
Dinner: White beans with ginger oyster sauce on flaxseed sourdough toast, musli
Baking/sweets: Armenian Nutmeg Cake, chocolates

I made an Asian version of baked beans, using oyster sauce instead of tomato sauce. The beans were cooked briefly on the stove top. It was delicious.

I had leftover Armenian Nutmeg Cake, straight out of the freezer. It was delicious for sure and it made me realize that frozen sweets appear less sweet. From memory warmer ice cream tastes sweeter. I need to test this. By eating cold sweets we may end up consuming more sugar and fat without realizing. I am not sure if this will stop me, if I have a craving I will eat and feel guilty later.

In case you are getting a bit tired of hearing how the Mediterranean diet promotes long life, here comes another one “Eat Like a Viking to Live Longer”. Recent research suggests that a Viking diet can help you live longer. Viking or Scandinavian diet includes items like cabbage, rye, oatmeal, apples, root vegetables and cold water fish such as salmon, herring and mackerel. According to the research a Scandinavian diet reduced 12-year mortality risk by as much as one-third.

Both men and woman increased life expectancy if they ate 1½ cups of shredded cabbage each week.  Here comes the bad news for ladies. Rye bread benefited mainly men. And now some bad news for men. Root vegetables and woman were more likely to result in a longer term mutual relationship!

It would be interesting to see which country researchers come up with next. I think Japan has already received its fair share of attention.
