Bean sprouts omelet and Red Bull in Chechnya

Bean sprouts omelet with oat sourdough
Food Diary (July 19, 2011)
Breakfast: Missed
Lunch: Bean sprouts omelet with oat sourdough, rolled oats with raisins and bananas
Dinner: Pasta with mixed vegetables and white beans
Baking/sweets:

I do crazy things sometimes, sometimes more than sometimes! This afternoon I had two really important meetings and instead of going to bed at a reasonable hour, at 130 in the morning I decided to experiment with baking. First attempt was a 3-ingredient strawberry jam cupcake. Just 3 ingredients and cake mix was not one of the ingredients. In the past I came up with a 3-Ingredient Oatmeal Cookie and that was a resounding success. But not this time, the 3-ingredient cupcake was a disaster. The cake lacked texture, it was mushy and flat, it certainly didn’t ‘rise’ to the occasion. But I happily ate it. My second attempt was a 4 ingredient vanilla semolina cake and that was a success. An awesome cake with only 4 ingredients. Unfortunately I inadvertently deleted the photos so I will post the recipe when I made this again soon. And it will be soon.

That’s why I missed breakfast, eating cakes early in the morning is not a good habit.

If you are under 18, love energy drinks and are planning to visit Chechnya, you may need to make some adjustments to your habits. Chechnya has banned the sale of energy drinks such as Red Bull to under 18s because they consider it as un-Islamic and dangerous. According to the deputy minister of health, Rukman Bartiyev, energy drinks are comparable to beer and they were harmful to health.

Other secular Muslim countries such as Iran have not banned Red Bull, not yet anyway. Chechnya has taken a stricter interpretation of the Sharia laws. With a population little over 1 million I don’t think Red Bull’s manufacturer would be particularly concerned with loss of sales.

  3. I've only had a Red Bull once and I couldn't sleep for 3 days! So it was kind of dangerous!

  4. Baking at 1:30??? I am so happy I am not the only one who has such crazy ideas (I sometimes start making preserves lat at night).
If I'm not wrong, France has banned (at least it was true a couple of years ago) Red Bull because of the risk it presents when mixed with strong alcohols... I didn't know Chechnya starts practicins sharia...

  7. I love the omelet. How fun and what a great way to mix things up using eggs. I love eggs and always looking for new ways to make them. Having the bean sprouts in it brings out a whole other crunch and yummy factor!

  8. shhhhhhhh i have a secret ...( I drink red bull ).

I can't believe they banned it- I mean - it is really just b vitamins and caffeine- Less caffeine than coffee actually!

hahahaha- I have to admit I have done the same thing, instead of going to bed, I get up and cook some random experiment and it tends to flop. Not always though- so it's the frequency of failure/success that would make me do it again. Sorry the cupcake flopped!
