A forklift accident in Australia has resulted in more than US$1.07m (£664,000) of wine being destroyed. 462 cases of the 2010 Mollydooker Velvet Glove shiraz which sells for A$185 a bottle ($199; £122) was smashed while being loaded for export to the United States. "When they opened up the container they said it was like a murder scene. But it smelled phenomenal."

This is a big loss but on a positive note, if there is one, the wine was fully insured. Loss of any alcohol is sacrilege. I would suggest at least a minute of mourning.

  3. Really enjoyed reading the BBC article about the wine- what a huge shame to lose such amazing wine! I wonder if the fork lift driver had his pay dock- he must have been mortified!

  4. I totally agree with at least a minute of silence. Every wine batch is unique, so it was a real tragedy...
