Chicken tikka masala and wrong place to steal

Chicken tikka masala with rice
Food Diary (February 25, 2012)
Breakfast: Rolled oats with pears, sunflower seeds and flax seeds
Lunch: Mantou and Chinese steamed eggs
Dinner: Chicken tikka masala with rice

Today I tried Chinese steamed eggs for the first time, I think, and I have yet to try chawanmushi. Chinese steamed eggs tasted like watered down poached egg. It is watered down egg. I can imagine it being much more flavourful if stock and other flavourings were used. At least I have tried this and am no longer curious.

A friend used to say that one of the safest places to overspeed is in front of the police station because that’s where they least expect it. It makes sense. A cop decided to take this philosophy one step further.

Officer Kevin Yang repeatedly stole colleagues' food and drinks from the refrigerator in the station's break room. He was charged with misdemeanor theft and suspended for 30 days without pay after being caught. The police chief authorized a video surveillance because the thefts have been going on for too long.

Kevin Yang in his defense said that he was merely taking it upon himself to keep the shared refrigerator clean. He certainly did clean it up. At least he could have come up with a better excuse. I guess if he was stupid enough to steal from the police station, not much more can be expected of him. Or maybe its better that he steals from the station rather than from citizens that he is paid to protect.

  2. Mmmmantou ...... gotta make some soon.
That's all we need ... thieving cops. Maybe he couldn't afford to get his own food with what they pay him?

    1. Really? Is that how the Chinese do their steamed eggs? Hmm ... didn't know that. I've always thought they tend to over season their food.

    2. That cops excuse was clean up, not lack of pay. Maybe the station should thank him for volunteering to clean up for no extra pay:) I guess cops in US are paid fairly well unlike in some countries where they aren't paid enough to earn a living
Steamed eggs - I have no ideas how its generally done. You asking me??? I just checked some recipes on the net and its steamed in water or stock and sometimes greens make an appearance. I had the basic version it seems

  3. I wish I can cook Chawanmushi for you! The key is to use good dashi stock because that's main flavor along with the egg.

  4. Your beautiful chicken tikka masala and butter chicken will make me buy a new Indian cookery book I have had my eye on for a certain time... (I have realised my 3 Indian cookery books were almost useless, i.e. "westernized").
Chawanmushi is a pure delight! I hope you make it soon.
The policeman reminds me of an article I read somewhere saying that apparently in most big offices in the US there are fridge stealers who... don't consider themselves stealers. On a forum people were even giving advice such as putting very hot chilies in sandwiches or keeping a picnic fridge in one's closed desk cupboard.

    1. Sorry to hear about those 3 books - I hope the 4th one has more authentic recipes.
Chawanmushi is not so common here, most Jap restaurants don't have it. I have to make it at home it seems.
I didn't realise the problem was so widespread. Putting chilis would work, also having healthy vegetarian meals:) This happens a lot in school/uni hostels. Some people I knew took food when they were drunk but they had good conscience when sober:)

  5. It's too bad we need cameras nearly every where to prevent theft! The problem we had a work was people leaving their food in the fridge for weeks and weeks...till they were growing mold. This was in a hospital!

  8. Chicken tikka masala. No one is better placed to rob a police station than a police officer! We keep being threatened to have a camera installed in the kitchen at work but to catch those who leave dirty dishes lol.
