Long live Mr. Besne

Tuna puff

Food Diary (March 15, 2012)
Breakfast: Toast
Lunch: Tuna puff
Dinner: Sandwich, salad
Baking/sweets: chocolates, various sweets

The ingredients and procedure for making tuna puff resembles bread and butter pudding, albeit less custardy and certainly not sweet. This is a delicious alternative to a simple tuna sandwich, though not as quick to prepare. And it looks quite different from a sandwich. The end result is crusty and moist. Unfortunately the pictures don't do it justice. The recipe is available here.

Mr. Jocko Besne the bull has passed away. Many of you may not know Jocko personally but probably tasted the delights of his hard work.

Jocko is ranked as the world's third most-potent breeding bull. During Jocko’s 17-year career he donated about 1.7 million sperm straws that were used in France and abroad.

Creavia, the farming cooperative that raised Jocko, believed he could have spawned between 300,000 and 400,000 offsprings. However officially he is credited as being the father of a mere 161,888 cattle in 21 countries as not all nations have kept records.

In France Jocko's daughters are present in 23,370 farms.

Jocko died from natural causes. He won’t be turned into beef, his body will be sent to Paris' natural history museum where his prowess will be studied.

So while you may not know Jocko, you probably drank milk produced by one of his daughters.

  1. Well, for a bull, he sure was a lucky chap. Most get turned into sausages before their first birthday. And those macarons are just so perfect - too good to eat!

The bull was lucky! At least he didn't end up as meat.

    1. It definitely was flavoursome. And the recipe can be easily varied - add cheese, potatoes etc etc.
