Lightly spiced potatoes and vege stirfry
Today's Food Diary
Breakfast: Missed
Lunch: Lightly spiced potato and vege stirfry
Dinner: salmon, soy bean and rib stew, hummus, rice and bread
Baking/sweets: gingerbread flavoured yogurt scones, chocolates, cookies, oat ‘sweets’

A short post today…

Lunch was light, in preparation for the expected heavier dinner. And it was a bit of a feast - eating small portions of different items added up. Sugar consumption was also high, after a vacuum yesterday. Anyway I did a lot of physical work today helping a friend pack, so the sugar provided much needed fuel, or a good excuse:)

pings pickings shares a recipe and pictures of macha macarons, the green goodness. Suddenly macarons have been becoming increasingly popular. The question is asked whether it is a fad.

Because of globalization many previously ‘exotic’ items have become ‘household items’. Examples include hummus, cous cous and quinoa. While macarons are becoming popular it remains exclusive due to higher price and limited availability. Macarons are being more aggressively promoted in some countries. It is easier to purchase them in Singapore and Malaysia compared with Sweden. Is it a fad? I think not. The aggressive marketing, fuelled by extensive blogging, seems to be creating a growing and sustainable demand. I suppose many people fall in love with macarons even before tasting them. The market penetration (or market share) of macarons is still relatively low, there is a long way to go.

  1. I believe Macarons are also not widely available in our local supermarkets. Hmm I hope it's not a fad.

  2. Hazel: thanks for visiting. I have seen coconut macarons in supermarkets, but they are very different from the 'other' macarons.

  3. I would love to try your spiced potato and vege stir-fry! I promised myself to go resume my healthy diet after the holidays and so...
I learned something new from you today - macarons. We only have macaroons in the Philippines which is an entire different thing. I had to google it up and was surprised to find out that a macaron is like meringue =)
