Chefs are surrounded by food but many of them manage to stay slim. A new book titled "Smart Chefs Stay Slim" gives interesting insights into how top chefs stay in shape. I know the timing of this article is not the best, perhaps you can read this after Easter but definitely before Christmas.
'Many chefs also start the day with vegetables - sauteing fresh spinach can be done in the same pan in which you fry your egg.' Some chefs have also said they order starters at restaurants rather than main meals.
Naomi Pomeroy, owner of Portland's Beast restaurant leaves a decent part of her meal to take home with her as it helps to ensure smaller portion sizes are devoured at night.
Exercise is also important. Cat Cora does cycling, climbing, hiking, swimming and yoga.
Eric Ripert, chef and co-owner of New York's Le Bernardin restaurant has a different take, but then he is French. He was educated from a young age to eat good food - good quality ingredients, in moderation.
Now how would you get your eggs that colour? Would you cook them with beetroot? It's breakfast time here and I feel like a poached egg with some sauteed spinach. Happy Easter xx

ReplyDeleteThose pink eggs are like the ones the Nyonyas make for the celebration of a 1 mth old baby, except it's not devilled", just plain ol' hard boiled.
What happened to that old saying ... Never trust a Skinny Chef?
I think the most difficult is being a pâtissier, not chef because many restaurants serve now rather light food and/or tiny portions. My favourite and the best macaron maker ever, Pierre Hermé, is really fat, while his counterpart, Christophe Michalak (another French celebrity) is slim and fit, but he admits running every day. Both are crazy for sweets of course, hence this problem... I wonder what food bloggers, often obsessed with food, do to stop ourselves from getting obese. Personally I eat everything, but some things, alas in tiny amounts. No sports. I'm too lazy.

I guess that chefs have to really think about their weight when they are constantly surrounded by food, and always sampling their dishes (the good chefs that is)!

ReplyDeleteI love this deviled eggs. I've never seen the pink (or any colored) deviled eggs before! Must pin this to remember. Hmmm how interesting! I agree with Joanne - I need to be a smart blogger who stays slim. I'm going so against that direction. UGH!!!
